It deals with the development and design of land use and the built environment, including air, water, infrastructure, transportation, communications and distribution networks and the provision of municipal services to residents and visitors. In short, urban land use planning is to design urban areas encompassing many developments and plan cities.

Type of study- includes mainly

  • Site visit, projects and presentations.

  • Theoretical parts.

  • Non-governmental organizations like GIZ, UNDP, UNhabitat

  • Property valuation offices (banks, courts...)
  • Ministry of Urban Development and Construction.
  • GIS (Geographical Information Systems) offices
  • Mapping agency
  • Landscape design offices
  • Housing projects offices and others

 Knowledge’s and skills to be acquired:-

  • preparation of project proposals for urban development plans;
  • Capable to prepare social and physical infrastructural plans and designs;
  • Proficient to prepare urban and neighborhood design, LDP and structural plan;
  • Having an adequate knowledge of urban design, planning, and the skills involved in the planning process;
  • Solving social problems (housing & transportation shortage, unemployment etc…)
  • Policy making regarding land use, urban plan & Design

Duration of study- 10 semesters, i.e. 5 years including one semester internship.

              Bachelor of Science in URBAN LAND USE PLANNING (In English)

              “የሳይንስ ባችለር ድግሪ በከተማ መሬት አጠቃቀም ፕላን” (In Amharic)

               Fact: Most Ethiopian City do not have proper urban/town plan & Design.
