Institute of Cooperative and Developmental Study


The Institute of Cooperatives and Development Study (ICDS) was established in 2009 with the main objective of producing qualified human resource in cooperatives and development studies, both at under and graduate study levels.

Generally, ICDS is dedicated in the development and application of knowledge in cooperatives and development studies. 


The institute envisions becoming a nationally and internationally recognized educational centre for development studies.

The Institute of Cooperatives and Development Studies also exists to produce competent and qualified professionals in development studies; ensure the provision of quality, cost effective, timely and need based research output, community and consultancy services to stakeholders.

The main pillars of the plan are namely, educational excellence; excellence in research; need based and tailor-made community service; and leadership and managerial excellence.  The combination of the pillars of the plan intends to increase customers’ and stakeholders’ satisfaction; increase customers’ and stakeholders   participation and empowerment; exercise good governance in provision of service; increase access to quality education, research and community services and, ensure effective and efficient utilization of financial resources .    

Our Institute is unique in that it is one of only a few in Ethiopia to combine formal Degree Programs and Short-term Trainings for Cooperative Societies at grass root levels through its out-reach program. This integrated approach provides students with an invaluable, broad and in-depth perspective of the real-life situations that enhances once focus on individual disciplines.
