Program Objectives

The primary objective of the B.Sc. program in Cadastral Surveying and Geomatics Engineering is to train students who would acquire sufficient knowledge, skills and specialization to meet demands of the Cadastral Surveying and Geomatics industry at national, regional and international levels.

The specific objectives of the training program:

  • Producing graduates who are well grounded with skills and knowledge of the surveying and geomatics discipline.
  • Imparting analytical, investigative and reporting skills with respect to land related issues.
  • Facilitating good practical understanding of the technical foundation of surveying/geomatics to facilitate self-learning and professional development
  • Instilling business skills in students so as to make them able to operate private business in Geomatics and related fields.
  • Promoting professionalism, work ethics and social values.

RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS

Apart from the general recurrent costs of consumables needed for any course, which the University would meet as standard overheads, the Cadastral Surveying & Geomatics B.Sc. Program requires a specific start-up costs and requirements for teaching resources, particularly those needed for computer laboratory studies. Funding from the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction project will contribute to these initial costs

Computing facility and equipment

Most of the courses in the Program are computer-based. The Bachelor program shall use the existing Most of the courses in the Program are computer-based. The Bachelor program shall use the existing University-wide computers. However, additional computing facilities will be required dedicated to this program. A very equipped computer laboratory with 40 desk-top computers, one server, 2 lap-tops, 2 LCD projectors, 2 digitizer, 2 plotter, large-screen monitor, 2 printer and relevant software and books will be required. In addition, some equipment will be required such as 10 Total Stations, 5 differential GPS, 20 hand held GPS, Stereoscope, for improved teaching delivery.

As a starting point however, the institute has a GIS laboratory with over 40 desktop computers, surveying laboratory with a number of GPS devices, and some other resources even if it is not sufficient.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The following requirements are set as selection criteria to join the Program

  • Students who successfully have completed the preparatory program and pass entrance examination set by the department, or the university, or the ministry of education as the case may be and meet the minimum requirement needed
  • Students who have Diploma/ level 3 from recognized institutions specializing in surveying, urban planning, civil engineering and relevant fields with a minimum cumulative point average (CGPA) of 2.00 or CoC certified.

DURATION OF STUDY

Once the student is admitted, under normal circumstances, he/she is required to attend the B.Sc. program for eight semesters within four years. However, in case of academic problems or the like the students can extend his/her study to the maximum of one more year.

The nomenclature of the degree awarded in this program shall be:
